This is highly speculative. It's armchair analysis.

If that idea that Mia Farrow's public image is a carefully crafted publicity stunt masterminded by Frank Sinatra, well WHY would a powerful man in his late forties get involved with a teenaged actress, marry her and plan to divorce her in short order?
Marilyn Monroe died in August 1962. She's been romantically linked to Frank Sinatra and to John F. Kennedy whom wikipedia describes as a friend of Sinatra's.
Mia Farrow would have been seventeen. Her father died a few months later, January 1963. John F. Kennedy died later that same year in November.
It's been suggested that Marilyn Monroe was assassinated, possibly a mob hit or possibly because of her association with President Kennedy, a married man. Conspiracy theories abound concerning his death, though I'm not personally familiar with any suggesting mob hit.
IF Sinatra was in the Mafia AND Kennedy REALLY was his friend, perhaps Kennedy was in bed with the Mafia. Perhaps that's pertinent to his death. In addition to this spate of deaths of people close to Sinatra and Farrow in a short period of time, Sinatra's Wikipedia page lists several dates in the 1960s in the section on his supposed Mafia connections.
Perhaps Sinatra killed Monroe. Perhaps his enemies killed Monroe. Perhaps Kennedy's death is somehow linked to his relationship to Sinatra.
Perhaps he killed Mia Farrow's father after getting involved with a seventeen year old Mia Farrow right after Marilyn Monroe's death.
He was experiencing a lot of heat, gets involved with a young no name actress to keep things quieter than a relationship to another big name star like Monroe, then MAKES Farrow a star by divorcing her to squelch Talk about how young she was.
Making her a big name star means no one ever goes "WTH was THAT??? Mia is YOUNGER than his daughter, Nancy! Is he some kind of pervert???"
Instead, people assume Mia Farrow must have been especially bright and talented and that relationship would have worked if only there wasn't, UNFORTUNATELY, such a big age difference!
She was a bland, not especially pretty, not especially stylish young actress. A nameless, faceless bedwarmer because men have needs and he needed someone low drama, not a magnet for the paparazzi hanging off his arm.
And then when things cooled off a bit, he divorced her under circumstances that protected his reputation. And it's an unimportant side effect in his eyes that it gives her a career.
Or perhaps black humor that it makes such a milquetoast seem like an empowered, liberated woman knowing she had no useful advice to give women for getting shit done and he's an old fashioned guy who isn't a fan of women's lib anyway.
