A Family Tradition

My parents were very big on child welfare. I draw my anti feminist views from their emphasis on the best interests of the children and I'm quite certain that does NOT mean women must be barefoot, pregnant and chained to the stove because my parents are the reason my cocaine addict brother got custody of his son in his divorce.

My brother moved to a small town and married a local gal and legally adopted her illegitimate son. My understanding is her grandfather was a local big shot and he paid a lot of her bills before my brother tried -- and failed -- to turn her into a good woman.

The two of them moved to Columbus, Georgia together and soon were pursuing fertility treatments though I don't think they really needed them. They were just in a big hurry to get a kid.

So she gets pregnant and wants to go home and does so without my brother. She was hanging with her gal pals and drinking way the fuck too much for a pregnant gal and when my brother finally showed up with a job lined up, she told him "I want to kill this baby." and informed him she was filing for divorce.

My brother went to his new employer day one and informed them of the situation, quit before he started the job and returned to Columbus. This was likely not long before my nephew was born because not long thereafter, my brother bought a baby seat for his car and he and my wily old codger of a father went down to see the baby.

They were planning to kidnap the kid. And they did so.

My dad distracted my brother's future ex while my brother grabbed the kid, went out a side door, strapped him into the baby seat and pealed rubber. My dad put on a good show cussing about how he couldn't believe the rat bastard LEFT him there in the middle of fuck NOWHERE with no means home.

Then assured her he would be fine hitch hiking home, she didn't need to arrange transportation for him or anything.

Dad hitch hiked to a nearby truck stop, the prearranged meeting point. They likely ate there and then went home to Columbus.

The baby had cigarette burns on him and they took photos to document the abuse just in case things got ugly in court. These were never presented as evidence.

When the case went to court, my brother's wife bitched and moaned about the kidnapping of HER baby. The judge informed her that as the father of that child, my brother had just as much right to custody of the kid as she did and seeing as how there was no custody agreement in place at the time of the incident, this was entirely IRRELEVANT to the proceedings.

My brother was granted full custody on the strength of the fact that our parents were allowing my brother and their grandchild to live with them and they were guaranteeing someone would care for that kid. The wife got visitation rights.

My father never adjusted to civilian life after he retired from the military. He had a history of playing at being a door-to-door salesman while my mother bitched that he didn't earn enough to cover the gas costs and car maintenance involved.

Dad officially retired and learned to change diapers, having never changed a single diaper for any of his own three children. Mom had just been accepted to college. She never went. Instead, she continued working full-time.

This wasn't the first rescue operation in my family's history. As told previously on this blog:

...at the age of sixteen or seventeen, my mother arranged forged papers, claimed the baby was hers and took the baby home to its rightful mother in defiance of the entire fucked up world and all of its fucked up governments and their idiot papers. Because that's just THE RIGHT THING TO DO, BY GOD.

My sister also took five years off from her hard charging career like a man when she had a child. I served as an unpaid nanny for a month to facilitate her wrapping up her work and qualifying for a government buy out and our parents support helped her stay home until the kid was older in spite of her husband having a lengthy stint of unemployment during that time.

When I tell you I don't approve of throwing the children to the wolves so MOM can have a fancy career, I'm absolutely NOT telling you "I approve of this barefoot, pregnant and chained to the stove SHIT!" I don't for one second believe that's how that has to go.
